The companions of Prophet Muhammad (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam) are regarded as the best nation the world has ever witnessed. Amongst those special personalities was Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Masood (Radi Allahu Anhu). As a young Arab, he was always very hard working and of a determined character. Initially when he learned about the Prophet Muhammad (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam), he did not immediately approach him until the occurrence of an incident that changed his life. Once, two wise men arrived towards Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Masood (Radi Allahu Anhu) in request for the milk from the sheep which he was protecting. He honestly replied that the sheep were not his property and so therefore he could not give them the milk. The two men were Prophet Muhammad (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam) and Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu). They were impressed by his honesty, while he was attracted towards them as both of them did not argue or cause problems despite suffering from unbearable thirst. This was one of the initial meetings, which had a positive effect on Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Masood (Radi Allahu Anhu) taking him closer to Rahmatul-lil-Alimeen, Prophet Muhammad (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam).

One of the first converts to Islam;
Regular meetings with Prophet Muhammad (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam) had enormous influence of Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Masood (Radi Allahu Anhu) resulting in his conversion to Islam. When he converted, his only ambition was to be fully in the service and work of Prophet Muhammad (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam). He assisted him on his journeys; he carried his personal belongings, helped him in his daily schedules and provided him with basic duties and needs. His love for Prophet Muhammad (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam) was sincere and immeasurable. The other companions at that time often referred to Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Masood (Radi Allahu Anhu), as Sahabe Siwak (as he carried Prophet’s (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam) toothbrush), Sahabe Nalain (he carried his (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam) slippers), Sahabe Wisadah (he carried disposable sleeping material) or Sahabe Mutahhara (he carried water). These titles and names were proudly accepted by Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Masood (Radi Allahu Anhu), who perhaps could be considered as one of the first Khadim (service man) of the beloved Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam). These services indicate towards the belief that a Muslim must love the Prophet in all matters in order to please and satisfy Allah (SWT). Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Masood (Radi Allahu Anhu) knew that in order to gain the satisfactions of Allah (SWT), it is essential to please His messenger.
